Cruise Surprises: don't let surprises ruin your trip!
Don't forget your kiddos passport or birth certificate! Customs will think you are trying to smuggle kids back in. Chances are you’ll want to arrive a day early to avoid any travel snafus that would cause you to miss the cruise ship.
Most ports charge $15-$20 a day.
I suggest booking a hotel package near the port that allows you to leave your car at the hotel while you’re on the cruise. The hotel I stayed at last time even had a free shuttle to take us to the cruise ship.
I tipped my hotel shuttle driver, I didn't tip for the six people he transported. However, you will pay about $12 per day per person in gratuity. And for good cause the porters at the ship that take your baggage, you receive top notch room service, the waiters that deliver food when you don't feel like going down for breakfast...Don't be a ripper scrooge!
I suggest making friends with the local nationals. They always offer a better deal than the ship, there's no additional tax and they know the ropes, best kept secrets, and often go out of their way to ensure you will enjoy yourself. Don't forget to tip!
OK now that we got that out of the way...you’re prepared to enjoy! It's worth it.
